Alexa Sherman

MEd, BCEA

Hello, I'm Alexa Sherman, the founder of Alexa's ABCS. I am a Board Certified Educational Advocate. I received a double Master's degree at the University of Washington, in both Special Education and General Education. Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, where I was a four-time captain of the Women's Volleyball Team.

I am happily married with two children and a playful yellow Lab. I enjoy spending time with my family, being in the outdoors, travelling, snowboarding, and playing volleyball.

Before establishing Alexa's ABCS, I worked as an educational advocate and dedicated ten years to public education as a special education teacher, spanning preschool, elementary, and transition age students. I have experience teaching in special education and inclusion classrooms. Additional roles have included being an orthopedic impairment

specialist, an inclusion specialist, and maintaining a strong background in behavioral studies. I am licensed in both CA and OR.

Over my ten years as a case manager, I collaborated closely with students, parents, and school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans, ensuring each child's unique needs were met. Even now, I continue to offer consultation services to my past districts, supporting teachers in creating inclusive environments with appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with diverse needs.

I firmly believe that working as a team enhances the support provided to each child and their families. I understand the challenges and frustrations that families face in navigating the educational system for children with disabilities. My experience has fueled my commitment to becoming a special education advocate who not only speaks up for children’s rights but also empowers parents and educators with the knowledge and tools needed for effective advocacy.
